About me

During my childhood....
....in the seventies until the early eighties, shiny nylon jackets were most common for the cold time of the year. Although mostly not
down filled but padded, they were very comfortable to wear, and I always liked their shine. But by the mid of the 80s, they had
come out of fashion and almost completely disappeared.
Years later, I found the French being the last bastion where shiny jackets were still "en vogue". After checking out most of the big
shopping malls in Paris in 1991, I found and bought my first Moncler, a "Verneuil" model. At that time, down jackets were nothing
more than functional and quite bulky looking jacket. No trace of high end fashion yet. I bought two more jackets the following
years, but in the mid 90's, the market had dried out also there. It was at a time when Moncler almost went bankrupt and was
awarded to Pepper Industries in 1992 by the Grenoble Commercial Court after Moncler had presented them a convincing
restructuring project. The idea was to turn Moncler into a fashion label.
Thanks to the advent of the Internet, I found out that Moncler did not completely
disappear from the planet, and in November 2001, I bought their new "Venise" jacket,
extremely shiny and more stylish than those I had seen before. One could see the
transformation to a fashion label, however, the material yet felt a bit "strange" compared
to the old school models back from the 90s, as it was not as soft anymore as it used to
be.
Since I liked shiny nylon jackets since childhood, the "new" Moncler has put a spell on
me as well as on my wife. Boutiques were still rare at the beginning of the 21st century,
and it was like a hunt to find one of these jackets. I remember the day when I found out
that there was a Moncler Boutique in St.Moritz, and a train trip was planned in
November 2002 to visit the store. I will probably never forget the day when we made
that trip to St.Moritz, not only because we returned back home with 2 jackets, but also
because it rained all day long and a mud slide burried the train tracks and heavily
delayed our trip back home...
Since homepages have become very popular and for personal fun and interest, I have
started to create this homepage to figure how this all works, and added quite some
information since it has gone online in 2007.
