Cleaning Tips

As is normal with clothes, they also might need to be washed every once in a while. I’ve heard from cases where owners have washed their jackets and returned to the stores thereafter, complaining that the shine had gone away. It is unknown how these people washed their jackets and what kind of washing powder they used, and the damage possibly also could have been done in a drying machine. Below are a few tips how to clean the jacket without causing any damage to it. First of all, check what kind of nylon your jacket is made of. We differentiate between the three nylon types: a) lackered nylon (high gloss) b) silk shine (like they used to be in the 90s) c) semi-mat (only slightly shiny)    The cartoon label in your Moncler jacket suggests that you can easily clean the jacket yourself or have it dry cleaned. Moncler sellers advise not to wash jacket type a) but to bring it to a dry cleaning service instead. When using that service, make sure you ask for a special protection treatment of the shiny coating to keep the fabric shiny and water tight. This is what the mysterious circled ‘P’ in the lower line of the cartoon label stands for (’P’ for ‘protetction’). Washing a b) or c) type jacket is not supposed to be a problem when handled according to the washing instructions. Dry cleaning the shiny jackets should be not a problem, for non shiny jackets it is not recommended and the cartoon may have misleading information, therefore better check the the label with the cleaning instructions. Washing For light stains, try using a clean kitchen sponge. Hold the sponge under the water until it is completely wet, pour on a very small amount of mild citrus tableware detergent and squeeze the sponge a couple of times until it is foamy, but no more water will be dripping out. Sponge over the affected spot until the fabric is wet, then rinse the sponge and go over the spot again in order to remove the detergent. Make sure your have removed all detergent as otherwise you may leave another spot. Use a clean towel to dry the spot, then let the spot dry completely. For washing the jackets (all three types of them), use a mild down detergent and machine wash it at 30° C. When finished, put the jacket in a tumbler and add 6 to 8 tennis balls, then tumble dry at the lowest possible temperature. The tennis balls will ensure that the down will not clump and that the jacket will regain its puffyness. For type a) jackets, I was told to use a bedsheet, holding the jacket and the tennis balls like a bag, so that the fabric will have no direct contact with the hot surface of the tumbler drum. Ironing Moncler jackets often get wrinkled at the back when wearing them while being seated. One feedback I got how to get rid of wrinkles is to use a wet cloth, laying it over the wrinkled part, and ironing it for a few seconds only. Then remove the cloth and smooth the fabric with your hands, repeat the steps as needed until the result is satisfactory. The ironing might flattening the down, so maybe you will need to wash the jacket according to the above mentioned instructions in order to get back its puffyness.
